Researching the Weather

We are learning how to research and write an informational piece using weather as our subject.  Your child will be working on this research and drafting some at home next week.  Below is a link that they can go to help gather information.  Also, weatherwizkids.com is a great resource to use too.

Dear Fourth Grade Families,
As you know, students participate in a monthly 4-H meeting held in our classrooms.  The Oldham County 4-H agent and her assistant meet with each of the classes and teach topics related to 4-H, science, and public speaking.
In the most recent meeting, students learned about public speaking and were tasked with creating a 3-5 minute speech to be presented and judged on February 10th or 12th.  All students MUST participate in the speeches but work and preparation should be done at home.
Students should choose one famous Kentucky explorer or pioneer to research and report on.  There is a green booklet attached that includes directions on preparing the speech and practicing.  On the back of this letter you will find the rubric for which students will be scored by the 4-H agents.
The top scorers of the 4th grade will get to move on the county public speaking competition!
There is a PowerPoint Presentation that will be posted on each classroom website with additional information and guidelines.  Please read through all the information to ensure speeches are planned and presented correctly.
The PowerPoint has already been viewed by students in our last 4-H meeting but they should look at it again to ensure they know the expectations as well.

Fourth Grade Speech Schedule:
 Paige:  February 10th
 Kapfhammer:  February 10th
 Vinova: February 12th

Let's Get Started!!!

I'm so glad that everyone is back and ready for a new year.  Now is the time to start thinking about changes that we can make to help us be proactive instead of reactive in our everyday lives and in our classroom.  Talk to your child about Habit # 1 Being Proactive and how they are drivers of their car, no the passengers.
