Homework, homework! Don’t
forget your homework!
This year in fourth grade homework is all about responsibility! Students are
responsible for bringing their homework, agenda, and book home each night and
returning it back to school the next day. There will be a packet of
homework each week, but assignments can also be given each day. These assignments will be written in your child's agenda. The school-wide policy at Dixie Elementary is
for every intermediate students to complete a maximum
of 40 minutes of homework each night. I am very excited about
this new policy because I believe family time and play time are very
important. However, I do think that 40 minutes is reasonable and can be
fit into any schedule. Below are some additional guidelines to help your child
be successful with homework and responsibility this year!
If the assignment takes your child more than 40 minutes they should STOP, even if the assignment is incomplete. Please write a note on the homework or planner to make me aware. I will help any student that struggles with homework the next day during morning work; however, the student must come ask me for help when entering the classroom.
If the assignment is completed in less 40 minutes, the remainder of the time should be spent READING silently or out-loud to a family member.
Homework will be PRACTICE of skills taught in the classroom. It should be completed INDEPENDENTLY by your child. The assignment should be fairly easy, rather than challenging, because it is practice. I will challenge your child in the classroom, but not on homework. This should prevent any frustration. Please check your child’s homework when they are finished.
Please sign your child’s agenda each night. This is our form of communication. Add any questions or comments! Thank you for your participation! I hope that homework will be stress free and successful this year!
