10 Days of Poetry

Using Refrain:
-Repetitive line found throughout the poem
-Is usually found in the same place in each stanza
-Similar to the chorus in a song

Try using one of these refrains in at least a three stanza poem with 4 lines in each stanza:

On my way to school today
I think I’ll stay in bed
And that was that
If you ask me
Why does it have to be me?
I laughed and giggled all day

Student Example:

Why Me?

It's me when I
have to pick up dog poo.
It's me when I have to take
out the trash.
Me, me, always me
Why does it have to be me?

It's me when I have company.
It's me when I have birthdays.
Me, me, always me
Why does it have to be me?

It's me when I am late.
It's me when I have
a bad grade.
Me, me, always me
Why does it have to be me?

  1. Learning, Laughing, Lunch

On my way to school today
    I wondered what would happen
    Learning
    Laughing
    Lunch

On my way to school today
I thought about what we would learn
    Math, Science, Social Studies

On my way to school today
I day-dreamed about laughing with my friends
We would crack up and couldn't stop

On my way to school today
I thought about the hot, steamy smell of...
    LUNCH!!

  2. The Giggles
My Friend leaned over for me to hear
    and whispered in my ear
a joke told by a comedian
I laughed and giggled all day

In Science I studied an Antidote
but then I thought of that joke
    the teacher got mad
cause I laughed and giggled all day

    During Social Studies
My friend smiled and gave me a poke
it made me think of that joke
    the teacher got mad
cause I laughed and giggled all day

    Through the pokes and antidotes
I thought of that Joke for the rest of the day
and hooted and hollered all the way
I laughed and giggled all day

  3. My hair is a mess,
    so is my breath
I think I'll stay in bed

    My stomach hurts,
    my clothes are wrinkled
I think I'll stay in bed

    Frank is a bully
    Lucille is mad at me
I think I'll stay in bed!

    I don't want to go
Don't want to learn or get assighnments
I think I will stay in bed

The smell of bacon on the tip of my nose
Making me want to get up
My cat laying on my head
I think I will stay in bed
