Blog Check

We are reading many novels in our classroom and participating in book clubs. Please leave me a post letting me know what you think of your book so far and how you are enjoying being part of a book club? Those who participate will earn a reward.

  1. I like my book a lot, the title is Maniac Magee. To me the book makes me wonder what going to happen next which makes me want to read more. working in a book group is really good because it teaches me to work with other people and as a group.

  2. My book is 'The Mixed Up Files Of Basil E. Frankweiler'. It is very interesting. It is also confusing at the very beginning because it uses very precise words and my group had to talk about them to help all of us to undersatnd the meaning of that specific word. It is interesting becauase Claudia, one of the characters, is running away, and chose her friend Jamie, also a charater, to go with her. They found a bus ticket in the trash, and they are going to use it to go to New York. We don't completely know why they are running away yet. Jamie gambles with his friend (I don't remember his friend's name) and gets lots of coins. He got $25.00 even in just pennys and nickels. Claudia decided that the money that he had would be the money that they would survive on. One of them has a violin case, and I was thinking that one of them would perform something and get people to drop money in the violin case. This book is very entertaining for me, and I love reading it slowly and asking questions about what the author wrote with my group. Go Cards!

  5. My book that I am reading is From the mixed up files of Basil E Frankwillier. Ithink book clubs were a good idea because it teaches us to work together in a group and get along with our group.
My book is about a girl named Claudia wanting to run away to a mueseum in New York becuase she has to many chores to do and her siblings don't have to. She takes her brother Jamie becuase he was rich with change. He finally tells her that he had been playing cards on the bus for money. They sneek away from school by sitting in the back of the bus, and when everybody else got of the bus they put there feet in the seat with them they lay on there music cases filled with clothes along with there backpacks. In by group there is me,2D,9D,12D, and 19D.

  6. I love my book Dead Man In Indian Creek! some people in my group participate, but others do not. i really like how the author ( i forgot her name!) explains in great vocab, and in precise words what the dead man looks like. and also gives you clues that lead up to who killed the dead man in Indian creek.

  7. Mrs. K I love The Giver, 8K is right it was boring at first, but it was only the first few pages. I really like it now because we can really feel like Jonas would since he's 11 just like us. I also like it because it's kind of confusing and I like figuring things out. It's not anything like how we live so it's fun reading about what life would be like if we lived in his commuinty. I really want to read it again because I want to know what Jonas' job is. Can we do book clubs more often?

  8. Im reading the book THE GIVER and it is fantastically confusing, but in a way, a very good and interesting book. Its about a boy named Jonas and he is turning 12, wich is the last year that his peeps celebrate. Im a bit confused when it said that he only gets a few hours to himself, and he has to spend them doing community service. It is also very interesting that he is the only one (not including the 2 other people in his community that have light brown eyes) with light brown eyes. But in othr ways the book is very grasping, and keeps you wondering!!!!!!!! :p

  9. I am reading the book From the Mixed up Files of Basil E. Frankwhiler. I think having book clubs are a good thing because instead of reading silently, we are reading with someone and telling them how to understand the book while being social. The book that my bookclub group is reading is confusing to me. I don't get what it was talking about, but then my bookclub and I went over the book and it makes alot more sence to everybody.

  10. I am reading The Giver. I have read this book before but it never gets old. I love it and I think it is good to go through the book with a group of classmates and discuss what we don't understand, especially since this book is a difficult read. Once we finish our books, if we have time, can we do another one? I think book clubs are super awesome!!!!

  11. 15k- I am reading Hatchet. So far I think it's not so hooking to me. We are only on the 5th chapter so it may hook me in later. I am thinking this is more of a boy book because it's about surviving. I think I'll like it soon.

  13. I love being in a book club because we work together very well and we usually get a lot done together. I am reading 12 FINALLY By:Wendy Mass, and I love it, it is so good because she thinks being able to do all of these things she has been waiting to do are going to make her life complete. She gets into a lot of mischief (not meaning to) because of all of these things on her list. On top of all of that she has a pop star coming to her school and she and her best friend Annabelle get chosen as extras in the movie. I would recommend it to everyone who likes middle school girl drama.

  14. I am reading "The Giver" and I think it is really good, because Louis Lowry
gives her readers many questions to think about that could happen in real life! Also what really makes me curious is the use of the word "release" in this book. Many people think that released means killed, I think that maybe it means let out into the wild or going through a special door that is in the release room. I like book club because it teaches students 3 main things, 1 how to read out loud fluently, 2 how to work with other students, and 3 how to ask deep questions that require deep thinking to find the answer.

  15. I am reading "The Giver" I like this book ,but it is very confusing. This book is very strange, because of the different world the main characters live in. This also makes this book interesting, because you wonder what things are and how everything works. It sure leaves you thinking.I like working in teams, because if I don't understand something there is someone to talk about it with.

  16. I like being in book clubs! But our book (Hatchet) isn't so interesting. The author repeats himself too much. My book club is really good too. Each person participates. If we don't understand something we will ask so they can understand the book better. (Which is pretty hard to do.) We also make connections and after we finish a chapter we will share them.

  17. I really like my book the giver. It is a little confusing but working with my book club we come up with sulotions that would be most logical for the question we have. It is all ways confusing or strange because the charicters live in a different world and you all ways wonder how the world work. But i really like being in book clubs because if you dont get somthing you can get other opinoins to help stop confusion.
